» E-commerce : FAQ
What E-Commerce shopping carts are most popular and what are the costs involved?
we can assist you with setup of those packages on your website at no extra cost to you. Though setup of your store and ongoing maintenance of it will need to be performed by you, as obviously its your product range.
X-Cart is not a free program, though very popular (www.x-cart.com). Again, we can assist with installation free of charge.
All of the above are designed for people who don't know coding languages. They have simple steps on setting up your products online. There's also plenty of support that the vendors provide to their users if there are things you aren't sure how to do.
What payment options can I provide my online customers?
The payment options will depend on what you want to offer as options. All ecommerce solutions will give you the ability to select how you charge your customers.
Those are:
• Paypal
• Credit Card
• Cheque
• Money Order
• Direct transfer
To charge with a credit card, you have two options:
1. Do it manually by collecting their CC details on your website and processing them via your own EFTPOS or online Merchant account with your bank, or
2. Take payments in real time via your website.
For charging in real time you will need to have a Merchant account with a bank and a payment gateway service to connect that Merchant bank account to your website. We provide the gateway service as an add on if this is the option that's best for you.
Understandably, real time transactions setup is quite an expensive excercise in terms of the bank fees to run your merchant account and the Gateway Service fee. If you're just starting out right now, the manual order processing is the most popular option, and as the online business grows and becomes more popular, clients tend to make the switch. You will have our full support during the upgrade as we setup the gateway service and assist you in connecting it to your website.
ECommerce Gateway Implementation Guidelines
This document is to assist developers in creating web applications that utilise the Giwia Payment Gateway (HPG) where the application will be written in a language, other than Perl, such as PHP or C, or where the developer is not hosting the website on Giwia servers.
Requirements
In order to create an application as detailed below, you will need
1. An eCommerce Merchant Account.
Merchant accounts must be with the St George Bank, National Australia Bank or Commonwealth Bank
2. If you do wish to host your eCommerce Store with Giwia, you will need a compatible eCommerce Hosting account. Otherwise, you will require your own web server.
3. Local development resources (if applicable)
For security reasons no telnet, ssh, or other console mode access is allowed to our web servers. In order to develop and debug, you will need access to local resources (i.e. yours) if you plan to host on our servers. These should include a cgi capable web server, a UNIX or UNIX like operating system, and server language support (for example PHP) that you wish to use. Apache users please be aware that zeus does not support apache modules, so you may need to contact us to ensure that what you intend to do will be compatible with our servers.
Applications can be created on any operating system, using any languages you wish, as long as the language can support external https calls.
